Hi Fuzz.
ReplyDeleteThere will be a few things in the course that come up that people have done a little on in biology A-level, but they'll need to be revised and you'll go into more detail about them, so I don't think you'll be too disadvantaged if you haven't done it. Most of the stuff however, is new material, so everyone will be in the same boat.
As for prior knowledge for the interview, Lancaster has started doing the Multiple-Mini interviews this year, and I'm not entirely sure about what that involves. However, I think it's good advice for any med-school interviews to have a bit of an idea about any current medical topics, think about ethical issues that might arise in medicine, and do some research about the course and think about why you want to go to that university.
Regarding extracurricular activities, there are loads of things that you can do that look good on an application - especially if you can show that you've got something valuable out of them. Sports teams, music groups, volunteering with charities, organizing events at school are all good things to do. I think they often recognize that it can be hard to get medically-related experience, but other things are just as relevant.
Thanks for the response Andy, have you got any good advice for me about writing the personal statement for medicine?
